A new role for the gene involved in synaptic plasticity that could have therapeutic implications

Kavli NDI PI Richard Huganir and team have discovered an additional role of the gene SYNGAP1.

In a recent study reported in Science, the team has shown that the protein has an enzymatic activity that is independent of its structural functions. This finding will affect therapeutic strategies for SynGap1 related neurodevelopmental disorders.
